MSFA President Keith J. Berg regrets to announce the passing of Firefighter John C. Gorde at age 82.  He was a lifelong resident of Mayville, Michigan and passed away unexpectedly Friday, August 28, 2020 at Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital in Saginaw.

Son of Henry and Kathryn (Beller) Gorde, John was born July 8, 1938 in Silverwood, MI. He graduated from Mayville High School with the Class of 1957. John married the love of his life Betty Thomas on June 24, 1961 in Caro, MI. He retired from General Motors Lake Orion Plant in Lake Orion, MI with over 30 years of service. John was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, UAW Local 5960, Mayville Fire Department for 56 years and Michigan State Fireman’s Association. He loved his family, socializing with friends, his fire display room, woodworking, flower gardening, doing yard work and hunting.

John is survived by his wife Betty Gorde of Mayville, MI; sons, Michael (Tricia) Gorde of Caro, MI, Christian (Anne) Gorde of Stewart, TN and David (Sue) Gorde of Mayville, MI; six grandchildren, Caleb Gorde, Natalie Gorde, Elijah Gorde, Brett Kowalski, Rachel Foster and Rod Kowalski; three great grandchildren; and sister, Margaret Sanford of Marlette, MI.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Kathryn Gorde; and sisters, Gladys Helpap, Bernice Vollmar and Donna Pogoreski.

The family will receive visitors from 2 – 8 PM Monday, August 31, 2020, 2 – 8 PM Tuesday, September 1, 2020 at the Mayville Fire Department in Mayville, MI and 10 AM until time of the service Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Mayville, MI.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Mayville, MI with Pastor Terry Balogh officiating.

Due to Covid 19 Regulations we will adhere to the strict guidelines and are asking all visitors to bring and wear a mask or face covering during visitation and service.

Burial will follow at Rich Township Cemetery, Mayville, MI.

In lieu of flowers Memorial Contributions may be made to Mayville Fire Department or St. Paul Lutheran Church.
